Terms of Service

Last Updated: March 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Riflet ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Agreement"). If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the Software. These terms apply to all users, including free beta users and those using paid licenses once available. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time, and your continued use of the Software following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.

2. License Grant and Restrictions

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Riflet for your personal or business purposes, subject to the restrictions set forth in this Agreement. This license does not permit you to sell, resell, rent, lease, or otherwise commercially exploit the Software. You may not redistribute, sublicense, or provide the Software to third parties, whether for commercial gain or otherwise. Any attempt to circumvent licensing restrictions, bypass activation systems, or reverse-engineer the Software is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate termination of your license and legal action.

The Software and all intellectual property contained therein remain the exclusive property of Riflet's creators. You own only the copy of the Software you have licensed, not the Software itself. Your rights are limited to those expressly granted in this Agreement. Unauthorized reproduction, modification, or distribution of the Software violates copyright law and may result in civil and criminal penalties.

3. Intellectual Property Rights

Riflet, including its design, features, functionality, code, and all associated materials, is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. All content, including text, graphics, logos, and software code, is the exclusive property of Riflet or its licensors. You acknowledge that you have no ownership rights in the Software itself, only a limited license to use it as expressly permitted by this Agreement.

You agree that you will not attempt to modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise derive the source code or underlying concepts of the Software without express written permission. Any research, documentation, or analysis of the Software for competitive purposes is prohibited. Your output documents created using Riflet may be used freely; however, the Software itself may not be reproduced or distributed in any form.

4. User Conduct and Prohibited Uses

You agree to use the Software only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with all applicable laws and regulations. You will not engage in any conduct that violates this Agreement or could harm the Software's integrity, security, or functionality. Prohibited uses include, but are not limited to: attempting to gain unauthorized access to the Software or related systems; introducing viruses, malware, or harmful code; disrupting normal operations; engaging in harassment or illegal activities; and violating intellectual property rights.

You are solely responsible for the files, documents, and data you process using Riflet. You must ensure that you have the legal right to process such content and that doing so complies with all applicable laws, including copyright, privacy, and data protection laws. You may not use Riflet to process confidential information belonging to third parties without proper authorization, and you are fully liable for any unauthorized disclosure or misuse of such information through your use of the Software.

5. Product Pricing and Beta Status

Riflet is currently in beta and offered free to all users during this period. All features, including those designated as "Pro" features, are available at no cost while the Software remains in beta. We may, at our sole discretion, introduce paid licensing models, upgrade paths, or feature restrictions upon the Software's official release or at any time thereafter.

When paid licensing becomes available, certain features currently available for free may be restricted to paid subscribers. We will provide notice of such changes, but continued use of the Software following any announcement of pricing changes constitutes acceptance of those changes. Refunds for paid licenses will only be issued in accordance with our refund policy, which will be communicated at the time paid licensing is introduced. We are not obligated to provide refunds or credits for any features that become unavailable or restricted.

6. License Terms for Future Paid Versions

Upon the introduction of paid licensing, Riflet will offer subscription licenses that provide one year of software updates and access for up to two users per license seat. A single "license seat" represents permission for one user to use the Software. If you purchase a multi-seat license, each seat may be used by a different individual. You are responsible for ensuring that all users accessing the Software through your license comply with this Agreement.

Licenses are personal and non-transferable. You may not resell, gift, or assign your license to another party. If your license is found to be in violation of these terms, including unauthorized sharing, your license may be revoked immediately without refund. During the one-year update period, you will receive access to all bug fixes, security patches, and feature updates. After the subscription period expires, you may continue to use the version of the Software you have access to, but you will not receive new updates or support.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Software is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and title. We make no guarantee that the Software will function without interruption, will be error-free, or will meet your expectations or requirements.

We do not warrant that the Software will be compatible with all systems, file formats, or third-party applications. File processing results depend on many factors beyond our control, including file quality, encoding, and system resources. While we use Apache Tika for document processing, we cannot guarantee that all file types will be processed correctly or that extracted content will be complete or accurate. You assume all responsibility for the results produced by the Software.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Riflet will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, or reputational harm, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement or your use of the Software will not exceed the amount you paid for the Software in the twelve months preceding the claim, or if you have not paid for the Software, fifty dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you. However, in such jurisdictions, Riflet's liability will be limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Riflet and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to your use of the Software, your violation of this Agreement, or your violation of any rights of third parties. This includes any claims arising from content you process, files you input, or outputs you generate using the Software.

10. Data Processing and Local Processing

Riflet is designed to process files locally on your device. Unless you explicitly choose to send data to third-party services (such as AI APIs), file processing occurs entirely on your machine. However, the Software may contact our servers for purposes such as checking for updates, verifying license status (for future paid versions), or collecting anonymized usage analytics. Your usage of external APIs or services, if enabled, is governed by those services' respective terms and policies. We are not responsible for any third-party service's handling of your data.

11. Open Source Components

Riflet utilizes open-source software components licensed under various open-source licenses, including but not limited to the MIT License and licenses for Apache Tika and related libraries. The use of these components is governed by their respective licenses. To the extent permitted by open-source license terms, those licenses are incorporated into and form part of this Agreement. You may view the open-source licenses and acknowledgments in the Software's About section or documentation.

12. Termination

Your license to use the Software is effective until terminated. We may terminate your license and your right to use the Software at any time, for any reason or no reason, with or without notice, including if you breach any provision of this Agreement. Upon termination, you must immediately cease all use of the Software. Sections of this Agreement that by their nature should survive termination, including provisions regarding intellectual property, limitations of liability, and indemnification, will survive any termination or expiration of this Agreement.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This Agreement is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Riflet is operated, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action or proceeding arising under or relating to this Agreement will be exclusively brought in the courts located in that jurisdiction, and you hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts.

Before initiating formal legal proceedings, you agree to attempt to resolve any dispute by contacting us at the support email address provided on our website. If informal resolution is unsuccessful, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration rather than litigation, except for injunctive relief to prevent intellectual property infringement or unauthorized use of the Software. The arbitration will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association (or equivalent in your jurisdiction) and will take place in the jurisdiction where Riflet is located.

14. Severability

If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, such provision will be reformed to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if such reformation is not possible, the provision will be severed. The invalidity of any provision will not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision, and this Agreement will continue in full force and effect to the maximum extent permitted by law.

15. Entire Agreement

This Agreement, together with any other agreements, policies, or documents expressly incorporated by reference (including the Privacy Policy), constitutes the entire agreement between you and Riflet regarding your use of the Software and supersedes all prior negotiations, representations, and agreements, whether written or oral. If there is any conflict between this Agreement and any other communication or document, this Agreement will control.

16. Contact Information

If you have questions about these Terms of Service or wish to contact us regarding your use of the Software, please reach out through the contact form on our website or via email at the address provided in the Software's support section.
